Both large and small scale investigations are catered for, including investigations to satisfy local building control, the NHBC or Zurich requirements.
Typical areas of investigations covered:
Foundation depth calculations based upon soil shrinkage, tree type and tree distanceSoil strength assessmentComprehensive small site investigations for foundation design, through to large scale multipurpose investigations for large industrial estates or housing developmentsSubsidenceDesiccation assessments prior to, or after removal of treesSoakaway design servicesProvision of pile design and retaining wall parametersCavity investigations (e.g. solution features and mines)
It is recommended that geotechnical investigations should be carried out a long as possible before construction commences as depending upon the findings, secondary investigations may be necessary, which may significantly delay the construction timetable.
It is often found that even for small extensions some form of soil testing will be required by the local authority, NHBC, or Zurich, for foundation design, especially if trees are in the area. This testing, if left until the excavations are started, may lead to a delay in concreting, or possibly to an alternative form of foundation recommended.
